Surrounded by the tranquil vistas of the world-renowned Niagara Escarpment, Milton is located 40 km west of Downtown Toronto on Highway 401. With park-like settings and home to multicultural diversity, Milton enjoys an equal measure of modern amenities, as well as access to shopping, entertainment, sporting facilities and special events throughout the year.
The town took root out of a settlement by Jasper Martin along the Sixteen Mile Creek. Martin was granted 100 acres of land, from the Crown in 1820. Martin later built a grist mill along the creek and created a pond, known as Mill Pond, to power his mill. In 1837 the area had a population of approximately 100 people and was named Milton after the English poet John Milton.
As of 2015, the population in Milton soared above 100,000 residents. It is expected the population will exceed 225,000 by 2031.
As one of North America’s faster growing communities, Milton has shown exemplary flexibility to adapt to the growing demands of its diverse residents. A very popular location for families, Milton offers residents the best of urban living coupled with a small town feel. One thing is for sure, there’s no shortage of things to do – whether it’s exploring the many outdoor activities, taking in the local entertainment or shopping in one of Canada’s best outlet malls.
